China has become the fifth largest market for Ceylon tea in 2020 as the tea exports to China topped 12 million kilograms in the first eleven months of the year.
In the period, Sri Lanka’s tea exports to China grew by 15.31 percent reaching 12.25 million kilograms compared to the preceding period in 2019.
In 2019, China was the sixth largest buyer of Ceylon tea behind Libya.
China became one of the fastest-growing market for Ceylon Tea over the past decade.
In 2009, China’s tea imports from Sri Lanka was belo w one million kilograms at 0.8 million kilograms and since then, tea exports to CHina posted continous growth on each year to become one of the key markets for Ceylon Tea.
