{"id":53,"date":"2020-05-21T10:09:48","date_gmt":"2020-05-21T10:09:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chinanews.lk\/?p=53"},"modified":"2020-05-21T10:09:49","modified_gmt":"2020-05-21T10:09:49","slug":"sri-lankas-china-built-port-asks-importers-to-clear-5000-cars-no-demurrage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chinanews.lk\/index.php\/2020\/05\/21\/sri-lankas-china-built-port-asks-importers-to-clear-5000-cars-no-demurrage\/","title":{"rendered":"Sri Lanka\u2019s China-built port asks importers to clear 5,000 cars, no demurrage"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sri Lanka\u2019s&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hipg.lk\/\">Hambantota Port, operated by CM Ports<\/a>&nbsp;of China has asked importers to clear over 5,000 vehicles that had been piled up during curfews slapped to contain the spread of Coronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demurrage from March 16 to April 30 would be waived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUp to date only around a thousand vehicles out of approximately 6500 have been cleared,\u201d Tissa Wickremasinghe, Chief Operating Officer of Hambantota International Port Group said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor us to expedite clearance, we need the full cooperation of importers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a port, we run a 24-hour operation and we hope we will be able to clear the vehicles by the end of this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe authorities have ensured that all relevant government departments are operational to facilitate the clearance.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sri Lanka has declared all port operations, including the movement of import and export cargo, as essential services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Documentation is being done and the port is also in the final process of implementing an E-doc facility.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Therefore, the document center at HIP is operational and is open to its partners and clients, to handle their paperwork without delay.
